Abstract	In Everybody Doing Pretty Here, a collection of eight interconnected short stories, Emily R. Elbom chronicles the lives of a married couple, Max and Willa. Both characters survive various forms of physical, emotional, and social abuse, and seem to stay married because of this connection. In spite of their codependency, Max and Willa never come across as being able to bridge their emotional gaps.
