Abstract or Summary
  • In Everybody Doing Pretty Here, a collection of eight interconnected short stories, Emily R. Elbom chronicles the lives of a married couple, Max and Willa. Both characters survive various forms of physical, emotional, and social abuse, and seem to stay married because of this connection. In spite of their codependency, Max and Willa never come across as being able to bridge their emotional gaps. The stories take place between World War II and Vietnam and are mostly set in North Dakota.
