Abstract or Summary
  • This study examines different fate and transport processes of N and P based on uncultivated grass, contour crop, and livestock management across different topographies (i.e. 5% vs. 30% slope) found within the tropical mountains of volcanic pedogenesis in the Ambato river catchment. The hydrologic, cultural, and agricultural properties of the catchment are consistent with many other steep and isolated mountain catchments where subsistence farming creates important impacts on the quality of water flowing downstream to cities. This investigation identified dominant pathways of N and P export based on land use, topographic, and climate conditions in the Ecuadorian Andes through the use of numerical experiments simulated in the Agricultural Policy Environmental eXtender (APEX). The objective of this study was to ultimately consider effective resources to support management decisions to mitigate nutrient exports and better utilize applied fertilizer to reduce production costs for the benefit of the local land managers.

  • description.provenance : Rejected by Julie Kurtz(julie.kurtz@oregonstate.edu), reason: Hi Lauren,Thanks for uploading to ScholarsArchive, you did make the deadline, so registering for fall term is not required.I am rejecting because on the Approval page, the second signature line should be changed from - Mary Santelman to read - Director of the Water Resources Graduate Program. Also on the bottom, add - Author after your name so it reads - Lauren Bomeisl, AuthorThe actual thesis should be either 1.5 or double spaced and it looks like it is single spaced. If you choose 1.5 spacing, it should also be used in the pretext pages on the Abstract, Acknowledgements and Contribution of Authors pages. Also on the Contribution of Authors is good to add what Desiree Tullos and Valeria Ochoa contributed.Everything else looks good. Once revised, log back into ScholarsArchive and go to the upload page. Replace the attached file with the revised PDF and resubmit. Thanks,Julie on 2017-10-04T18:27:09Z (GMT)
