Abstract
  • Perturbed Angular Correlation Spectroscopy (PAC) is a highly sensitive local probe technique well suited for studying defect characteristics of solids. This technique is applied to the problem of studying the solubility of indium in cerium oxide. Through the measurement of samples with differing levels in indium doping, the solubility of indium in cerium oxide is determined to be only a few tenths of a percent. A new PAC signal is observed which is not associated with any previously observed sites within the cerium oxide lattice at elevated temperatures. The characteristics of this new site, as well as possible physical models for it are presented.
