Abstract
  • The purpose of this research was to determine if overland flow and sediment production were different in logged (on snow, frozen soil, and prescribed skid trails) and nonlogged sites in a Pinus ponderosa Laws.! Symohoricaroos albus Laws. community in the foothills of the Wallowa Mountains in northeastern Oregon. To determine this watershed plots with an area of 5 square meters were used. The research consisted of two parts: 1) Measurement of overland flow and sediment production that resulted from natural weather events were recorded in the first part of the research. 2) Simulated rainfall was applied to a second set of plots with three different treatments to generate and measure overland flow and sediment production. The treatments were: a) vegetation intact, b) vegetation clipped, and c) vegetation and organic horizon removed. Results from both parts of the research show that there were no differences in either overland flow or sediment production regardless of treatment for this specific site.
