Abstract
  • Decimation and interpolation is shown to be an effective technique for reducing the storage requirements for bandlimited time series. Interpolation and decimation is theoretically developed using z-transform theory and graphically interperted. A sequence of data acquired by sampling a sonar signal is used to demonstrate the effects of decimation. Using a finite impulse response linear phase filter-decimator system it is shown that storage requirements for the sonar signal can be reduced by a factor of at least eight.
