Abstract
  • The problem of determining the estimability of linear parametric functions in classification models is examined. The two estimability problems which are specifically aimed at are: the problem of determining whether the design matrix is of maximal rank (i. e. , all cell expectations are estimable); and in the event that the design matrix is not of maximal rank, the problem of finding a basis for a subspace of estimable parametric functions involving one particular effect. Several procedures for conveniently obtaining spanning sets for certain subspaces of estimable parametric functions in classification models are developed; and for such spanning sets the estimability of single effect as well as the rank of the design matrix is determined.
