Abstract
  • When people talk about the one-child policy in China, it always relates to topics like human rights violations or the population control dilemma. The one-child policy was published in the 1980s, around the same time as the Economic Reform, and these twin policies brought Chinese society tremendous changes. This paper explores the other sides of the history of the one-child policy. Besides the human rights violation and population control, what else did the one-child policy bring to Chinese women as a social group and impact their lives in the era after the Economic Reform? This paper applies to many primary and secondary resources like statistics, government propaganda and documents, newspaper articles, books, and journals, etc. in order to provide a different perspective to the role that the one-child policy played in Chinese history and social change.
