  • Microscale-based technology has potential applications in the medical field. The development of a new microscale medical device requires experimentation and testing. This can be done by creating a breadboard device that can perform the functionalities the final device should be able to do. This breadboard device can also be used as an experimentation platform to test different device concepts and as a flexible device that can change features as the concept of the device evolves. For the i-Blood project, the current breadboard device has three main features which involve a peristaltic pump, temperature sensor, and pressure sensor. All components of the device are connected and controlled by an Arduino Nano programmed using Arduino IDE which primarily uses C/C++. Immediate uses of the current version of this breadboard device can be used to quantify hemolysis through the device during continuous use.
