Abstract
  • The clean cookstove sector has long sought the tools and analysis methods needed to accurately quantify social, environmental, and economic impacts of projects in diverse settings. To respond to this need, Climate Solutions Consulting and Oregon State University have developed a novel integrated suite of sensors to collect fuel usage data, stove usage data, and air quality measurements in households with one or multiple stoves. The integrated sensor suite includes a wireless handheld launcher that activates all sensors simultaneously for a household and later downloads the logged data to a single datafile. To effectively use this data to generate insights into performance and impact in monitoring campaigns in a variety of households and multiple monitoring periods, a data management and analysis platform is needed. The development of such a platform builds capacity with local partners, reducing dependency on highly trained technicians for cookstove impact data analysis. This thesis documents the need for this platform and the initial technical implementation with consideration for usability across cultures.
