Abstract
  • Transects were run at five locations in the Benton County area searching for samples of Chlorociboria spp. on dead wood, with fifteen total samples found. Of these samples, eight samples had the wood species identified, with the majority found on Acer macrophyllum and one on Salix spp. The density of Chlorociboria spp. in the Benton County area was compared to that of similar riparian rainforests in Tambopata, Peru, and no significant difference was found in distribution between the two forests. Knowledge of Chlorociboria spp. density and wood preference will assist in optimizing production of its pigment xylindein, which has potential uses in wood staining and solar cells. Key Words: spalting, fungi, Chlorociboria, density, wood species
