Abstract
  • Data concerning the current rank and mean salary levels of all academic staff was requested through the Executive Office in order to obtain information concerning the status of academic staff women at Oregon State University. From the data supplied, the data in the following have been extracted. The information was requested initially for several purposes. First, from the study of the data, certain trends and general directions could be determined in the salary scale and rank of women faculty as a whole compared to men faculty. Second, analysis of the data could indicate in which areas it may be important for women faculty to concentrate in order to improve their status. Third, the data would be available for study to the executive and academic deans and for use.by any investigating committee which may wish to have information on this matter.in terms of enforcing Executive Order 11375 concerning discriminatory employment practices. The data used in the following analyses include salary, rank, degree achievement and years of service for all academic staff, men and women, employed by Oregon State University for 1970-71. Full-time annual rate was used for computing averages when positions involved were less than 1.00 FTE. Not included in the data of the study were the President, Vice-President, Executive Deans (3), Academic Deans (9), Department Heads and Chairmen, Head Basketball and Head Football Coaches (2), and any employee with the title of “Director” or “Manager” (approximately 120 people). Cooperative Extension and Experiment Station personnel are included in the data.
