Abstract	Throughout the centuries, the techniques used to prevent borer activity number in the hundreds but the standard wood preservative, creosote, has been the most commonly used preservative since the mid 19th century. In the late 1940's, the metallic salts came into use as wood preservatives. The most successful of these are ammoniacal chromium arsenite (ACA), and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). Recently the use of both creosote and metallic salts has become suspect as hazardous to the environment and their continued use is open to speculation. This report summarizes a method of preventing borer attack by an environmentally safe procedure, biological control.
