Abstract
  • Seed processors now use magnetic cleaning to remove noxious weed seeds and other contaminants from smooth crop seeds like those of alfalfa. In the present practice, the contaminant allowances permitted for certified seeds are frequently exceeded, or high crop losses are sustained in meeting the standard. The importance of iron powder fineness, moisture level, and technique was determined and used to specify materials and procedures that improve efficiency in magnetic separation of seeds.
