Abstract
  • Janet Webster served as facilitator of the project and compiled the final report. 23 colleagues on the OSU Libraries and Press worked diligently to explore the OSU campus and report back. Their participation and ideas are the foundation of this report.
  • The liaison role has evolved, yet we continue to seek the right balance for ourselves within the context of new strategic directions, emerging service models and the broader academic library landscape. In the FY14 academic year, Oregon State University librarians worked in six teams to to investigate the colleges and other relevant academic units to identify our connections with campus units that leverage our expertise and our strategic goals. They considered the three roles proposed in the 2013 ARL Report, New Roles for New Times: Transforming Liaison Roles in Research Libraries (advocate, consultant and expert)as well as three specific strategies from the OSULP 2013 Strategic Plan to help direct the work. The specific strategies were promoting information literacy, developing research collaborations and facilitating scholarly communication. Three possible models were proposed: a curriculum model that would shape engagement around how teaching expertise; a services model where teams would focus on expertise rather than discipline; a cluster model where engagement would build on existing relationships and expertise. The report includes sections from each team that describes the colleges and campus units studies and the particular opportunities for leveraging the OSU Libraries' and Press's expertise.
