Abstract
  • In this case study, an Oregon softwood lumber company faces deteriorating market conditions and loss of market share for its 2 x 10 and 2 x 12 floor joists in the southern California market. The evolution of the marketplace and the growth in market share of wood I-joists are explained in the context of a consultant’s report. Several factors are contributing to the company’s loss of market share, including the superior performance of wood I-joists and problems with the quality of solid sawn lumber. Students are asked to develop a set of recommended actions for the case company.
