Abstract	The purpose of this investigation was to determine if pinniped feeding patterns have significant negative impacts on depressed salmonid stocks. Knowledge about prey selection by pinnipeds is key to assessing their potential impact on salmonid stocks. The four major work elements reported are: 1) the reanalysis of Columbia River area scat samples collected in the early 1980's; 2) examination of California sea lion (Zalophus calironianus), Pacific harbor seal (Phoca vitulina), and Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) scat; 3) determination of salmonid size from recently collected gastrointestinal tract samples from the Columbia River; and 4) examination of previously collected pinniped scat samples from the southern Oregon coast. In addition pinniped prey items were identified from previous scat collections made in Siletz Bay, Alsea Bay, and the Umpqua River, along with a comparison of lavage, enema and scat samples collected in the Columbia River.
