Abstract
  • The properties of (1-x)BaTiO3-xBi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 (BT-BMT) ceramics were fabricated from reagent-grade ceramic powders by solid-state methods and investigated for solubility, relative permittivity, dielectric loss, polarization, and electromechanical strain. The solubility limit was found to be between x = 0.3 and 0.4. Ba-deficient samples were fabricated, corresponding to stable single-phase compositions; these were found to have both lower relative permittivity and lower dielectric loss. These ceramics transitioned from quasi-linear dielectrics at x = 0.4 to ferroelectric ceramics at around x = 0.1. A Co additive, in the form of BiCoO3 (BC), was found to flatten the permittivity curve slightly, but data was too scant to draw any other conclusions. The solubility of BC in BT was <1%, though a ternary BT-BMT-BC was found to be stable at proportions of 80-19-1 and 70-28-2.
