Abstract
  • College students need accurate information to both prevent sexual assault and to access services following sexual assault. Effective communication serves an important public health role by reducing both assaults and psychological distress. In contrast, ineffective communication can both increase assaults and psychological distress. Little empirical research is available to guide authors of safety tips, timely warnings, emergency alerts, and other resources. This independent undergraduate research study compares an existing college sexual assault resource brochure with a revised brochure that emphasizes the responsibility of perpetrators and bystanders to prevent sexual assault, as well as victim/survivor's autonomy, and an institutional commitment to ending sexual assault.
