Abstract
  • Designed to help you understand loss and grief and respond to the grief of others; emphasizes losses experienced in later life, however most information is equally applicable to grief throughout adulthood. Covers the fundamental steps involved in the grieving process—accepting loss, experiencing grief, adjusting to change, and reinvesting emotional energy in other people or activities. Describes physical, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual responses to grief. Covers factors that influence a person's ability to cope with loss and includes a checklist to determine how seriously a loss might affect a person. Presents ways to help a grieving person and warning signs that indicate a person may need more help than you can provide. Includes simple guidelines for writing a condolence note.
