Abstract
  • Concern about noise pollution has swept the country. People are conscious of their environment and are trying to preserve or to improve it. When the City of Lake Oswego selected a site for their water treatment plant, they had to assure the neighbors that it would not increase the ambient noise levels. In order to meet this requirement, all of the sources within the plant had to be identified and evaluated. Results of indicated special treatment of the pump room were required to screen the pump noise from the neighborhood. A baffle was designed and built to provide the required transmission loss. Data obtained after the plant was built showed that although the transmission loss was less than estimated, the neighborhood ambient levels were unchanged after the water treatment plant was put into service.
