Abstract
  • We survey the use of genetic algorithms in function optimization. We find that there are two distinct camps. Holland's camp seems to be interested in artificial intelligence uses of genetic algorithms and seems to have made only a few attempts at function optimization. Rechenberg's camp has concentrated on the optimization of real-valued functions. The two camps use different methods and it seems difficult to compare their results. We include an annotated bibliography of some 70 items.
