This machine Is the first series arc machine installed
In the city of Portland. It was obtained by
the Electrical Department of O.A.C., with the object
of rewinding it for a high current machine to be used
in the charging of storage batteries.

The arid soils of Oregon tend to be deficient in organic
matter and nitrogen. This deficiency has a marked effect on
the duty of water and the productiveness of such soils. Silt
