The purpose of this report is to briefly examine some of the laws
and regulatory programs which affect development in Oregon's estuaries
and their adjacent wetlands. Development, in this sense, includes
dredging, filling, bank stabilization, structures or other physical
alterations to an estuary.
The present study was designed to investigate the
effects of exercise on vitamin B-6 metabolism. Four groups
of subjects (intermittent, college, untrained, and high school)
consisting of nineteen male and two female individuals, participated
in the study. The subjects exercised either on a
bicycle ergometer, by running three 1500 meter...
Four different heating treatments with two different methods of
cooking were applied to soybeans. The treatments were boiling 20 min,
autoclaving 5 min, 10 min, or 20 min, after soaking the beans for 10 hr
at 25°C.
Vitamin B-6 and free folacin in cooking water were significantly
(P<0.05) affected by...
Population attributes, behavior, and activity patterns of
Nuttall's cottontails (Sylvilagus nuttallii) inhabiting a
juniper-sagebrush scabland community in central Oregon were studied
between June 1980 and August 1981. Cottontails were trapped, marked
for individual recognition, and released at their sites of capture.
Data collected by periodic trapping and censusing of cottontails...
Descendants of eastern cottontails from Ohio
(Sylvilagns floridanus) introduced in Benton County,
Oregon and cottontails from Ohio were sampled and
analyzed morphometrically and colorimetrically. In
general, Oregon cottontails were smaller and lighter in
color than Ohio rabbits. Introgression and interspecific
competition with the smaller and darker colored native
brush rabbit...
Genetic, ontogenetic, and environmental factors modified characteristic interrenal and glycemic responses to stress in juvenile salmonid fishes. During continuous confinement stress, plasma cortisol rose more quickly in chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, acclimated to high rather than medium or low temperatures; hyperglycemia following either acute or chronic stress was also highest...
Coho salmon smolts (Oncorhynchus kisutch) were transported at low and high densities. (12 and 120 g/L) for short and long periods (4 and 12 h). Because smolts can be transplanted directly to seawater, half of the fish in each treatment were transported to tanks containing seawater and half to tanks...
During the last five years, interest in productivity-based group incentive plans for mill operations in the forest products industry has increased. In a 1983 monograph in this series titled "Company /Employee Gainsharing Programs," Michael B. McKay anticipated this trend. In that monograph, he defined "gainsharing" as a "group incentive plan."...

The fecal flora of healthy bottle or breast-fed infants was
examined for the presence of Bifidobacterium. Identification was
based on the presence of fructose-6-phosphate phosphoketolase,
which is found only in these bacteria. No bifidobacteria were
recovered from bottle-fed infants. However, bifidobacteria were
readily isolated from 15 day to 3 month...
An individualized beginning construction course, CT 225, was developed
to accommodate students entering the clothing course sequences
with varying amounts of knowledge and skill in the area of construction.
The faculty in the Clothing, Textiles & Related Arts Department at
Oregon State University wanted to determine new students' skills and...
In their search for viable economic development opportunities,
many American Indian tribes have focused their
attention toward tourism development on their reservation
lands. In many cases, the greatest potential for economic
development and attracting income to the reservations lies
in tourist trade. Although tourism may not be a tribe's
primary...
In this thesis, a method is presented to construct minimum-time
robot trajectories for predefined Cartesian end-effector path in a
workspace containing obstacles. The method is preferably applied to a
geometric collision-free path of a SCARA robot by using the theories of
Bezier, B-spline, and parabolic blending curves. The motion of...
The study was undertaken to investigate characteristics of
consumers of used clothing and the outlets in which used clothing is
sold. The investigation of consumer characteristics involved demographic factors such as sex, age, educational level, employment
status, family composition, income level, user of clothing purchased,
use of clothing, reasons for...
Purpose of the Study The primary focus of this study was to compare Iowa Tests of Educational Development (ITED) subtest scores with achievement letter grades (A, B, C, D, and F) in vocational education classes at Bartlett High School, Anchorage, Alaska. The two secondary purposes of the study were to...
The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology
to compare the color choice recommendations for each personal
color analysis category identified by the authors of selected
publications. The procedure used included: (1) identification
of publications with color analysis systems directed toward female
clientele; (2) comparison of number and...
Debugging, the process of locating and correcting errors in a computer
program, is a common programming task that is not well understood. Of the
several debugging studies reported in the literature, most compared the performance
differences between expert and novice programmers by measuring
their debug time and the number of...

This was an experimental study which compared two different
instructional methods, oral lesson closure versus
written lesson closure, on the achievement of 156 junior
high school students in social studies. This study was
composed of two duplicate experiments. Experiment I was
conducted with 71 seventh grade social studies students at...
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the factors which
influenced undergraduate students in the School of Education at Oregon
State University to select vocational teacher education as their
major. Data were collected from 315 vocational, practical arts, and
non-vocational undergraduate teacher education majors who were
enrolled in teacher...
A study of malolactic bacteria of the Leuconostoc
genus, especially L. oenos, and their bacteriophages was
conducted. A search for the presence of infectious
bacteriophages in grapes, musts, and juices employed in
malo-lactic fermentation (MLF) was conducted; no
evidence, either physical or biological, was found for
the existence of these...
Mutants of Streptococcus lactis 7962 with various combinations of plasmid molecular masses were screened for nisin production. Nisin was produced by both wild type and mutants that contained a 17.5 Md plasmid, which was usually obscured by the chromosomal fragments. No nisin was produced by plasmid-free mutants. Sucrose fermentation and...
Purpose of the Study
The primary purpose of this investigation was to develop a
methodology by which to objectively study and assess the grief and
adjustment processes of bereaved parents. An original research and
counseling instrument, the Parental Bereavement Interview and Rating
Scale (PBIRS), was formulated, field-tested in a preliminary...
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the
possibility of developing high yielding wheat cultivars whose flour
would result in acceptable loaf volumes for non-traditional bread
wheat growing areas. Spring wheat germplasm employed included high
protein hexaploid derivatives from Triticum dicoccoides, and
selections from Argentina with good bread milling...
A method for rapid isolation of plasmid DNA from group N
streptococci was developed. Chief advantages of the method were
simplicity, the utilization of microliter quantities of reagents,
and the obtainment of preparations highly enriched for covalently
closed circular plasmid DNA. The method was also applied to over
15 Leuconostoc...
Lactobacilli are microorganisms with many applications in the
fermented food and dairy industries. In addition to the actual
fermentation of food products, lactobacilli are involved in the
metabolic breakdown of lactose in dairy products, enabling a large
population of lactose-intolerant humans to ingest milk. Lactobacilli
are also used as health...
The purposes of this study were to identify factors that
influence industrial education teachers to use computers in their
instruction and to explain the relationships among these factors.
For the purposes of this study, the term "to use computers" meant use
of computers in one or more of the following...
Program understanding is an integral part of the testing and maintenance phases of the software life cycle. There have been numerous investigations of the influence of various aspects of a program and the program- ming process on program comprehension. However, the many different measures of understanding used in these studies...
Fast acid-producing streptomycin-resistant mutants for several
strains of lactic streptococci currently used in commercial Cheddar
cheese manufacture were isolated. Their isolation involved use of a
recently developed differential plating medium that allows identification
of fast acid-producing colonies. Both parents and mutants were characterized
with regard to growth, acid production, proteolytic...
