This is a listing of both PhD and Master's· theses relating to the areas of forestry issued during the period from July 1976 to June 1981. The
list is arranged first by state, then by college or university within each state. Authors of theses are arranged alphabetically under each of...
Dwarf mistletoes still pose management problems on the Flathead Reservation. We describe a management program, to be conducted in conjunction with the silvicultural program, which will help reduce the impact of dwarf mistletoe on Douglas-fir, western larch, and lodgepole pine. This program covers fiscal years 1986 through 1990.
This index provides access to infonnation about women in 102 books and journals. The information contained in each entry is only as good as the original and the quality varies considerably. Much of this infonnation has not before been easily accesible in this form. My hope is that this index...

Field and laboratory studies were conducted on volcanic ash from Yakima, Moses Lake, Spokane, Washington, and Moscow, Idaho, three weeks after the May 18, 1980, eruption of Mt. St. Helens in southwestern Washington. These studies examined 1) the chemical, physical, and water retentivity properties of the ash, 2) the effect...

The past year presented many exciting changes and new challenges to both the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC-OSU) and the Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center (USDA-Agricultural Research Service). We were honored by a promotion and several special recognitions. There were changes in personnel, a reorganization of CBARC, establishment of...
The staffs of the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC-Oregon State University) and the Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center (USDA-Agricultural Research Service) are again proud to present results of their research in this bulletin. The past year has seen significant changes at the research center, in staffing, new projects undertaken,...

Plastic waste in the oceans is now recognized as a serious threat to marine life and a pollution problem with economic consequences for mariners and coastal states. Annex V of MARPOL, effective December 1988, is an international treaty which prohibits signatory nations from disposing of any plastic material into the...
The primary objective of this study is to assess the Mexican experience in
managing coastal natural areas. The assessment is based on the categories, uses,
objectives, and political elements of Mexican protected coastal areas and governmental
efforts to develop and manage these areas. Specific problems within each protected
coastal area...
This report is divided into several sections. The first provides information
on the current status of wetlands, the Corps' regulatory role, its statutory
enforcement authority, and its interpretation of that authority. The next
section describes the Portland District's enforcement structure and procedures.
A case study detailing the District's treatment of...
The overall objective of this study is to propose a framework or model for
comprehensive management model of coastal development in Quintana Roo (Quintana
Roo's Coastal Management Program-QRCMP), using a regional approach.
Breeding ecology and behavior were investigated in a field study of three sympatric anuran amphibians in the Oregon Cascade Mountains: the western toad (Bufo
boreas), the Cascades frog (Rana cascadae) and the Pacific treefrog (Hyla regilla). A comprehensive study of the western toad mating system was conducted at three populations...
This compilation of theses and dissertations (a part of the OSU Bibliographic Series) for the period 1970-1977 reflects this university's emphasis on research and graduate study. It may be viewed as an indicator of the contributions made to the state of Oregon through graduate study and research at Oregon State...
Tables are presented that summarize 108 published articles on forest growth and yield in the Pacific Northwest. Each table describes the form of the information presented, the species to which the information is applicable, the data sources used to develop the information, the data needed to predict growth and yield,...
The cormorant/fisherman issue is not limited to Tillamook County in 1988-1989 but is symptomatic of a widespread conflict of some fishermen with fish-eating animals. Predators, specifically cormorants, have been blamed for the "ruin" of the Tillamook fisheries, but the effects of cormorant predation have been exaggerated. Actually, current salmon and...
This publication consists of reports of projects carried out by
students in the Marine Resource Management Program in the School of
Oceanography at Oregon State University. These studies, sponsored by
the OSU Sea Grant Program and the School of Oceanography, were carried
out during the period 1974 to 1980. The...
New grading standards for hay have been proposed by the American
Forage and Grassland Council and the Federal Grain Inspection Service.
This publication traces the development of these standards, describes new
terminology, and reports on research conducted at Oregon State University
to evaluate these new standards.
Alfalfa hay samples obtained...
Federal legislation requires that governmental programs be evaluated on a wide set of criteria to provide policymakers with information on the achievement or lack of achievement of goals and/or objectives. A methodology to identify and quantify measures of achievement is described. In addition, the methodology is designed to facilitate the...
Seasonal trends in forage quality and production were studied on improved
and unimproved portions of four plant communities in eastern Oregon. The range
improvements consisted of seeding and/or thinning. Improvement doubled forage
production on the lodgepole pine site (thinned but not seeded), tripled production
on the grassland and moist meadow...
The purpose of the workshop was to exchange information on sampling procedures, research methodologies, preparation and
interpretation of specimen material, terminology, and the application
and significance of findings, emphasizing the relationship of dendrochronology procedures to fire history interpretations.
ABSTRACT
Improved Fumigants
Chioropicrin, Vorlex and Vapam continue to control internal decay of
pressure-treated Douglas-fir poles 12 years after application. Fungitoxic quantities
of chloropicrin are present in the wood as high as 2.4 m (8 feet) above
the groundline. Solid methylisothiocyanate (MIT), which goes directly to a vapor,
is somewhat...
ABSTRACT
Improved Fumigants
After 13 years, chioropicrin, methylisothiocyanate (MIT), Vapam, and
Vorlex continue to effectively control internal decay of pressure-treated
Douglas-fir transmission poles. The estimated retreating schedules for
application of these fumigants to treated wood may be as long as 10 years
for Vapam and 15 years for the others....
The purposes of this study were to (a) outline a three-stage
methodology combining functional/conceptual
equivalence, item equivalence, and equivalence in construct
operationalization to investigate the cross-cultural
validity of psychological test instruments, and (b) to
examine the cross-cultural equivalence of the Physical
Estimation and Attraction Scale (Sonstroem, 1978) for
English-speaking and...

Previous studies have indicated that the largest loss associated with green veneer production occurs at the green veneer clipper. It has been reported that up to 26 percent of the block volume is lost during clipping. However, because of today's processing sophistication, this value is no longer considered current nor...
The classical dimension theories of Menger-Urysohn and Lebesgue are equivalent on metric spaces. However, their infinite-dimensional analogues may differ, even on compact metric spaces. The three such infinite-dimensional dimension theories considered in this thesis are known as countable-dimensionality, property C, and weak infinite-dimensionality. The open questions regarding the relationships between...
A statistical description of the deep ocean internal wave field is presented using measurements from the Midocean Acoustic Transmission Experiment, conducted near Cobb Seamount in the NE Pacific (46°46'N, 30°47'W) during June–July 1977. The unique feature of this experiment is the variety of data obtained simultaneously from the same location:...
Hypothesis tests are developed for the exertion of
market power by the Japanese government in the world and
domestic wheat markets. The results indicate that the
Japanese government is pursuing a more restrictive import
policy for wheat than would be indicated by an optimal
tariff strategy. Results also indicate that...
