Estimations of plant water use can provide great assistance to growers, irrigators,
engineers and water resource planners. This is especially true concerning the introduction
of a new crop into irrigated agriculture. Growing hybrid poplar trees for wood chip stock
and veneer production under agronomic practices is currently being explored as...
Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) distribution was monitored and eelgrass beds (Zostera marina) were mapped during the spring migration of 1976. Brant used eelgrass areas significantly, and human disturbance and tide height were important factors influencing Brant distribution and activity.

CITATION: Wetzel, D. J. 1996. Brant use of Yaquina Estuary
Oregon's estuaries have been significantly altered by human activity, so that many former tidal wetlands no longer provide the functions, such as fish and wildlife habitat, erosion protection from storms, and water quality maintenance, that preserve the integrity of estuarine ecosystems. Oregon has been a leader in wetland protection and...

Nutrients and microorganisms in manure can cause water quality problems. When you collect, handle, and land spread manure, this material can get into surface or groundwater supplies. The level of risk depends on many factors.
The temperature of the water in our streams and rivers is very important to the well-being of fish and other aquatic organisms. Most species need cool water to survive. As a result, Oregon’s water-quality standards include maximum stream temperature criteria. Streams that are monitored and found to exceed these temperatures...
