We present molybdenum isotope and concentration data from 14 sites in the eastern Pacific from the
central California to the Peru margin. The environments studied have been chosen to represent a broad
range in oxidation-reduction (redox) potential, which provide a framework for the behavior of this redox-sensitive
element. Manganese-rich hemipelagic...
A method for measuring whole-tree interception of precipitation is presented which employs mechanical displacement sensors to measure trunk compression caused by the water captured by the tree. This direct and nondestructive method is demonstrated to be sensitive to less than 5 kg of interception field tests in Netherlands and Ghana.
The data presented in this report demonstrate significant improvements
in the ability to constrain trace element and Sr isotopic
concentrations in sediments overlying ridge-flank hydrothermal
systems. Improved sampling methods orchestrated by the Integrated
Ocean Drilling Program (i.e., advanced piston coring and
anoxic sample processing) enabled the collection of reactive pore...
The collapse of the Laurentide Ice Sheet over Hudson Bay ∼8.47 ka allowed the rapid drainage of glacial Lake Agassiz into the Labrador Sea, an event identified as causing a reduction in Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) and the 8.2 ka cold event. Atmosphere‐ocean models simulations based on this forcing,...
Here we present the first downcore results for a new paleoproxy, the Mn/Ca ratio of foraminiferal calcite, applied to sediment accumulated in the extreme Eastern Tropical North Pacific (ETNP) over the last 30,000 years. The Mn/Ca results are compared to oxygen isotopes and sea surface temperature calculated from Mg/Ca. We...
The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System has considerably changed after a series of natural disturbances, especially hurricanes and extreme coral bleaching, and is further impacted by anthropogenic threats. Located at a tri-national border between Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, the Sapodilla Cayes Range is specifically impacted by tourism, commercial fishing and other...
We investigate the freshwater composition of the shelf
and slope of the Arctic Ocean north of the New Siberian
Islands using geochemical tracer data (δ¹⁸O, Ba, and PO₄*)
collected following the extreme summer of 2007. We find
that the anomalous wind patterns that partly explained the sea
ice minimum at...
This article discusses the results of a suite of numerical simulations of the oceanic
circulation in the Southwestern Atlantic Shelf region that are aimed to characterize its
mean circulation and seasonal variability and to determine the dynamical mechanisms
controlling them. Our experiments indicate that south of 40°S the mean circulation...
The distribution of barite (BaSO₄) in marine sediments has long been studied as a proxy for paleoproductivity. While pure barite is known to be a stable mineral in oxic sediments, it is also known that variations in the Sr/Ba ratio influence its solubility and liability during early diagenesis. To extract...
