Why be concerned about pollination? While most varieties of pear will set some fruit without cross pollination, usually they will set more and better fruit with it. Cross pollination means the transfer of pollen from the anthers of flowers of one variety to the stigma of flowers of another.

In cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton) cultivation, farmers typically rent colonies of honey bee (Apis mellifera) for pollination. However, the efficiency of this bee at pollinating cranberries in Oregon, as in other regions, is questionable. Bumble bees (Bombus sp.) are reportedly effective in other regions, but their impact in Oregon is...
Meadowfoam (Limnanthes alba Hartw. ex Benth. ssp. alba, Limnanthaceae) is an oilseed crop that requires insect (primarily honey bee) pollination to set seed. Effective honey bee management will
increase meadowfoam yields, which will improve the economic competitiveness of this new resource for Oregon. The purposes of this publication are:

The early stages of secondary succession of the
McDonald and Paul Dunn State Forests, Corvallis, Oregon,

The availability of new pear rootstocks could be increased by development of an efficient micropropagation system. Many P. calleryana, P. betulifolia and P. communis rootstocks are resistant to many pear diseases and are graft compatible with leading cultivars. Explains of three potentially useful rootstock selections P. calleryana Decne 'OPR 157',...

This publication gives a concise description of the causes, symptoms, and disease cycle of pear scab. It also describes the OSU-MCAREC three-part model to predict scab risk and help time fungicide sprays. Integrating nonchemical methods and fungicide applications optimized with the OSU-MCAREC model can result in production of high-quality pears...
'Golden Delicious' winter squash (GDWS), Cucurbita maxima Duchesne, provides significant amounts of pollen (24 mg) and nectar (236 μl), but with a low reward of 14% nectar sugar. The quantity of nectar produced per GDWS flower differed between sites and floral sex. The GDWS male flowers had 25% higher sugar...

Fruit tree fertilization is a standard grower practice intended to supplement soil-supplied nutrients. Both soil-applied fertilizers and nutrients stored within the tree are important. Tree reserves are the major source of nutrients for developing tissues before petal fall. Current-season growth and
yield are influenced by nutritional status, which in turn...
