First-order analyses of wind and current time series obtained from a Totem buoy off the Oregon coast during 1970 are presented. In addition, winds at Totem are compared with winds recorded simultaneously at Newport, Oregon.
Seismic properties (P, S velocities and Poisson's ratio) of
young (0.75 m.y.) and mature (110 m.y.) oceanic crust are obtained
by studying explosive refraction data collected in the Pacific Ocean
using ocean bottom and downhole seismometers. A comparison of the
results for the two regions indicates that the upper crustal...
A summary of one phase of a direct observational program conducted
in the coastal region off Oregon is presented. The measurements
were made primarily on the continental shelf during most of the coastal
upwelling season (May and June 1967; April through September 1968).
The principal measurements were time series of...
Although perceived-risk curriculum, that is, where the learner experiences effects of eustress (positive stress), has been used in Arts or outdoor activities, it has not been used in school classrooms. Milkman’s 1996 studies of after-school Project Self Discovery demonstrated that at-risk students lessened their adverse risky behaviors, such as substance...
Two thermal convection problems of geophysical interest are
examined, theoretically. First, convection in the earth's mantle is
treated on the basis of a one-dimensional 'strip model'. This model
results from further simplification of the well known 'Rayleigh model'.
For homogeneous, Newtonian fluids, the strip model yields results
similar to those...
The continuation of conductive temperature fields is being
considered. The continuation of a field involves the extrapolation of a
field known over a limited domain to an adjacent domain in such a way
that it satisfies the heat conduction differential equation and other
imposed constraints. Continuations forward in time and...
