Data from the southern Cascade Mountains of
Oregon has been collected for application in computer
analysis of snowfields. Vegetation type, canopy
cover, slope, aspect, insolation, and snowfield
ground truth delineation are given consideration.
In addition, a procedure for transferral of data
onto Landsat imagery was derived.

In this project we have attempted to exploit the parallel programming features of a Sequent Balance multiprocessor to improve the performance of a Smalltalk interpreter. The block construct and the fork message together make Smalltalk a 'natural' parallel programming language. We describe how processes can be created from within the...
Project F-82-R Final Report The results of a study to understand the ecological requirements of brown trout and determine the effects of water development and land use on fish populations in the Deschutes River. Abundance, distribution, survival, age, growth, fecundity, food, migrations and ecological relationships to other species were all...
Aquaculture is one of the most dynamic food-producing subsectors
worldwide. In the Philippines, shrimp monoculture started in the 1980s,
only to collapse less than a decade later due to disease. More recently,
extensive polyculture of fish, shrimp and mud crabs has developed. The
objective of this paper is to analyze...
Adoption of aquaculture, particularly among the rural poor, requires timely
and quality seed at the farmer level. In areas of Northwest Bangladesh, the
region considered most marginalised for food production, carp polyculture
has been improved through the introduction of Nile tilapia, but constrained
by under-developed seed supply. In order to...
This paper presents the interim results of an ongoing research project funded by the 'Research Councils
UK' Rural Economy Land Use programme. The project has a multi-disciplinary perspective on the
potential production and marketing of tilapia as a niche product under a diversification strategy for UK
arable and dairy farmers;...
Under July 1, 1972 - June 30, 1973 cost levels for the Little White Salmon and Willard National Fish Hatcheries, small budget reductions made by reducing expenditures for fish food resulted in sharp increases in average total cost per pound of salmon produced.
A new technique of implementing the object-oriented language Little Smalltalk is developed using tuple space communication of Linda. In this implementation, the language's abstract constructs such as object, class, and method are naturally mapped into tuple space. Since Linda's tuple space is designed to facilitate parallel processing, this implementation technique...
