The present study examined the process by which couples, in the context
of a heterosexual romantic relationship, participate in sexual activity. As they did
so, their interactions helped to construct their relationship. Social construction
theory and the gender perspective provided the theoretical foundation for this
qualitative research.
Nine heterosexual couples...
The purpose of this study was to explore the association
between sex-role orientation and contraceptive behavior
in an unmarried population. One hundred and twentyeight
sexually active unmarried college students comprised
the sample. The test instrument was made up of the Sex-
Role Stereotypic Questionnaire developed by Rosenkrantz,
Vogel, Bee, Broverman,...
Among sexually-active, young women, the motivation to contracept
seems to be more of an issue than the technology. This study explored
two factors associated with the motivation to contracept; specifically,
the relationship of sex role orientation (SRO), and locus of control
(LOC), to the contraceptive use patterns of 77 unmarried,...
The role of orange coloration in the breeding behavior of
Gambelia wislizenii was examined in the Alvord Basin of southeast
Oregon. Behavioral observations of free ranging lizards supplemented
field experiments where I manipulated the sex and color of lizards
encountered by resident female G. wislizenii before and after they
acquired...
The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship
between attitudes and behaviors pertaining to male contraceptive practices;
the influences of living group affiliation in these practices;
the influence of partners in birth control method use; the quality of
communication in the sexual relationship as an influence in birth...
To quantify the reproductive behavior of male and female gray-tailed
voles, Microtus canicaudus, under conditions of natural
estrus, sexually experienced pairs were observed in a standardized
behavior test for 10 hours. The total duration of sexual
interactions averaged 223 minutes, which is considerably longer than
previously published reports on microtines....
Because arginine vasotocin (AVT) activates male sexual behaviors in the rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa), quantitative autoradiography with radiolabelled arginine vasopressin (³H-AVP) was used to localize and characterize putative AVT receptors in the brain of this amphibian. Binding of ³H-AVP to sites within the medial pallium was saturable, specific, reversible, of...

An ancient pheromonal signal is found in aquatic courting salamandrids and terrestrial courting plethodontids, two highly divergent salamander families. In the aquatic courting salamandrids Cynops pyrrhogaster and C. ensicauda, the decapeptide sodefrin is cleaved from a larger 189 amino acid Sodefrin Precursor Factor (SPF) protein and released from a gland...
Animal signaling systems frequently utilize multiple traits to produce and transmit a signal. These system elements may span multiple levels of organization. Functional integration of these traits may be expected to generate concordance in evolutionary pattern among system elements, such that evolutionary change in one system component is correlated with...
