There are many reasons toward why students withhold such negative mindsets toward the subject of mathematics. This thesis builds upon previously conducted research concerning affect and confidence in mathematical problem solving, confidence that students exhibit about themselves, and combinatorial thinking and activity.
Sea surface temperature (SST) variability at intraseasonal time scales across the Indonesian Seas during January 1998–mid-2012 is examined. The intraseasonal variability is most energetic in the Banda and Timor Seas, with a standard deviation of 0.4°–0.5°C, representing 55%–60% of total nonseasonal SST variance. A slab ocean model demonstrates that intraseasonal...

The increase in atmospheric concentrations of water vapor with global warming is a large positive feedback in the climate system. Thus, even relatively small errors in its magnitude can lead to large uncertainties in predicting climate response to anthropogenic forcing. This study incorporates observed variability of water vapor over 2002–2009...
1. Aquatic ecologists are working to develop theory and techniques for analysis of dynamic stream processes and communities of organisms. Such work is critical for the development of conservation plans that are relevant at the scale of entire ecosystems. The stream network is the foundation upon which stream systems are...
Statistical summaries of streamfiow data at 358 stream-gaging sites
are presented to aid in appraising the hydrology of river basins in Oregon.
Records for 36 stream-gaging stations were compiled into separate periods
because of changes in streamflow regulation during the period of data
collection. Statistical summaries for the periods before...

Processes that influence habitat selection in landscapes involve the interaction of habitat composition and configuration
and are particularly important for species with complex life cycles. We assessed the relative influence of landscape spatial
processes and local habitat characteristics on patterns in the distribution and abundance of spawning steelhead
(Oncorhynchus mykiss),...
