The Llanrwst Pb–Zn veinfield occupies fractures in an Ordovician volcano-sedimentary sequence, with three separate mineralizing events (M₁, M₂ and M₃). The Llanfair Pb–Zn–Cu veinfield consists of sporadic mineralization in Silurian sediments.
