Abstract	In recent years, the number of fresh-market sweet cherry cultivars (varieties) produced in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) has grown from a few, dominated by one (Bing), to a dozen or more. Lapins was among the first new cultivars to gain significance in the mid-1990s, followed by Sweetheart, Chelan, Tieton, and others. Some of these early selections have lost favor with growers as production problems have become apparent and breeding programs release superior alternatives. Published December 2007.
