Abstract
  • Research regarding communication of research based results and recommendations to parents of young children in a way that inspires meaningful action is limited. This project analyzes the responses of parents of kindergarten aged children in the School Readiness Study focus groups to a proposed Action Plan to support children’s learning and development. By gaining an understanding of what steps to promote learning and development parents find most feasible for their family it becomes possible to offer research results to families in a way that prompts effective action. This project also promotes health literacy by educating parents on ways to support their children’s learning and development while giving them agency to select the actions that are most reasonable for their family. Results from this study are being used to improve the ways this study shares information back with families and to inform the scientific field about promoting health literacy among parents of young children.
