Abstract
  • The new Technical Report Management System (TRMS) is a client/server web application developed for the Compute Science Department. It provides web services like online browsing, viewing, searching and online database administration including creating and modifying the existing bibliographic records. It is a multi-tiered, component-based application that deploys the latest J2EE technologies, XML as well as UML and various design patterns. The TRMS contains a client tier, which consists various JSP pages, a presentation tier which consists a Java servlet and Java Bean objects, a communication tier and a data tier. A BML (bibliographic markup language) has been created to improve the bibliographic file's extensibility, portability. And two adaptors are developed so that the whole system can be easily configured to support both BML database and existing bibliographic database. Moreover, the TRMS is a component reusable, scalable, efficient system that can be installed on any Windows, Unix or Linux platform.
