Abstract
  • This paper presents an overview of cogeneration, also known as combined heat and power (CHP). The technology of cogeneration is described and the three primary cogeneration processes are discussed. The transition between parallel operation with the utility and stand-alone operation is discussed. The trade­off between a synchronous and an induction generator is also considered. The classification, uses, benefits of and barriers to cogeneration are presented, along with a feasibility analysis for a new plant, Finally,.a description of Oregon State University's planned CHP facility is presented.
