- Abstract:
- The standard way of representing numbers on computers gives rise to errors which increase as computations progress. Using p-adic valuations can reduce error accumulation. Valuation theory tells us that p-adic and standard valuations cannot be directly compared. The p-adic valuation can, however, be used in an indirect way. This gives...

- Abstract:
- Statistical hypothesis testing has been widely criticized by ecologists in recent years. I review some of the more persistent criticisms of P values and argue that most stem from misunderstandings or incorrect interpretations, rather than from intrinsic shortcomings of the P value. I show that P values are intimately linked...

- Abstract:
- The semiconductor gallium arsenide (GaAs) has many potential advantages over the more widely used semiconductor silicon (Si). These include higher low field mobility, semi-insulating substrates, a direct band-gap, and greater radiation hardness. All these advantages offer distinct opportunities for implementation of new circuit functions or extension of the operating conditions...

- Abstract:
- p-type conducting films of α- BaCu₂S₂ have been deposited onto glass and KBr substrates, yielding a conductivity of 17 S/cm and a Hall mobility of 3.5 cm²/Vs. For a 430-nm-thick film, the optical transparency approaches 90% in the visible portion of the spectrum at 650 nm, and a transparency of...

- Abstract:
- Thermal decomposition of several di-p-toluenesulfonylhydrazones was studied. It was found that the carbene decomposition of tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanedione, di-p-toluenesulfonylhydrazone gave two products resulting from rearrangement. One was identified as 2,5-dimethyl-1,3,4-hexatriene. A tentative structure for the second was proposed. During the course of the study, a more convenient procedure for thermal decompositions was...
