A simplification of the proof of the maximum principle of
Pontryagin is obtained for constrained and unconstrained optimal control
problems. Two numerical methods for solving optimal control problems
with guaranteed error bounds using the maximum principle of Pontryagin
and interval analysis are derived.
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Exposure from medical radiation sources are on the rise in the United States. Often the highest potential source of radiation dose to patients and radiology staff occur during interventional radiology procedures performed using fluoroscopy and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) to provide image guidance in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Several...
Eye plaque brachytherapy is an established technique for the treatment of ocular melanoma that allows for the preservation of the affected eye as well as visual function. A common treatment planning system for eye plaque procedures, Plaque Simulator (PS), assists physicists in calculating the radiation dose to the tumor and...
This thesis reports a portion of a general ecological study of
a stream under conditions of controlled flow and low levels of organic
enrichment. It is concerned with the effects of experimental variations
of light intensity and concentration of soluble organic enrichment
imposed on seasonal variations of temperature and total...
Fiber-optic-coupled dosimeters (FOCDs) are a relatively new method in which to obtain in-vivo dose concomitant with radiation treatment. Accurate live dosing can be achieved virtually anywhere due to their small dimensions (0.2 mm) which can be accommodated by a catheter. The purpose of this experiment is to characterize the electron...
One hundred and fifty-one weanling rats of both sexes were fed
control diets or diets containing 160 ppm diethylnitrosamine (DEN) or
150 ppm N-2-fluorenyl-acetamide (FAA). The carcinogen level was
calculated so that the LD₅₀ should be achieved at about 17 weeks.
Each carcinogen treatment was incorporated with three different diet...
An attempt has been made to elucidate the biosynthetic precursor
of ethylene in the mold P. digitatum. By application of basic
radiotracer methodology and the utilization of several specifically
labeled radiochemical substrates, it has been possible to demonstrate
that the internal carbon atoms of C-4 dicarboxylic acids such
as succinate,...
Existing methods for the estimation of relative participation of
glucose catabolic pathways make use of yield data of respiratory
¹⁴CO₂ or intermediary ¹⁴C products derived from glucose substrates
specifically labeled with ¹⁴C. Cumulative yields of respiratory
¹⁴CO₂ observed at the end of time course of complete substrate
utilization are analyzed...
Compliance with 10CFR 20.101 requires that exposure to the skin be assessed at a depth of 0.007 cm over 10 cm² area. This depth generally corresponds to the interface between the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission states the criteria for evaluating skin dose from...
