Abstract	Written for CSSA 548: American Higher Education. This paper utilizes Pasifika epistemologies to explore the history of Pacific Islanders (PI) in higher education. Upon addressing the detriments of the Asian and/or Pacific Islander racial demographic along with acknowledging systemic barriers that PI student face in academia, a strengths-based approach is utilized to exemplify Pasifika-centric assets of cultural wealth. The next section of this paper discusses the evolution of Native Hawaiian scholars and the creation of their methodologies. To conclude, future implications for student affairs practitioners are provided. Understanding the intersections between culture, history, and academia are essential for the success of Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian students in post-secondary institutions.
