Abstract
  • Includes slides and transcript.
  • The purpose of this research project is to explore the impact of social and sustainable bonds on homelessness rates. Using information from over 270,000 bond issuances, this study aims to find correlations of these bonds and homelessness rates across different states. Python was used to implement statistical regressions to analyze relationships between bond issuance per capita and homelessness per capita, as well as the percentage change in homelessness. Two significant findings were found: a relationship between last year's homelessness per capita and the current year's sustainable bond issuance per capita, and a relationship between last year's social bond issuance per capita and the percent change in homelessness. These findings suggest a possible impact of these types of bond issuances on homelessness, prompting future research to find causal relationships and specific factors that affect these correlations. This study highlights the increasing role of social and sustainable bonds in addressing societal issues and adds to the understanding of financial instruments in social welfare contexts.
