Abstract
  • There are lots of mailing systems available for Apple Macintosh computers. But when this research was started, there were no Voice Mail System for the Macintosh. However, a similar system was available for the NeXT machine. So the main goal of this research was to develop a Voice Mail System for the Apple Macintosh computer. And now Farallon Inc., has developed a Voice Mail System for the Macintosh. This Voice Mail (VMail) system is a complete, fault tolerant mailing system for Macintosh computers. The user can send text message as well as voice message to another user. Several options are provided for recording a voice. The user can send and receive mail messages to and from different users, provided their machines are connected over the IPC 1990 network. The system is built to withstand any normal malfunctions. The mail delivery is guaranteed, unless there is some serious problem such as machine or network failure. The entire Voice Mail system is written in the Object Oriented Language C++ using Macintosh Programmer's Workshop development environment (MPW). The system uses the Farallon Sound Toolkit for sound management. and Apple's IPC 1990 for networking. Toe result of this research is a sophisticated mailing system for the Apple Macintosh.
