Abstract
  • Nuclear material monitoring systems have long been established at ports of entry. However, there are no standard systems for monitoring points of interest within the country. Therefore, the use of a network of radiation sensors deployed throughout an area of interest is being investigated within this thesis. Before full scale experiments are attempted, this project looks to model the scenario using a combination of small NaI detectors, cameras, and remote-controlled sources in identifying common trends between detector signals in order to identify and track the source of radiation. Testing of optimal detector locations, various city block geometry with proper scaling, and nuclear source locating algorithms were all performed as part of this project.
