Abstract
  • This study sought to explore the relationships between changes in net revenues and the changes in different classifications of institutional expenditures within community colleges in the United States in order to identify trends in how teaching-focused colleges prioritize their efforts in response to financial stimuli using multivariate multiple linear regression. Subsequently, the study explores the relationship between any expenditure trends and a series of student-facing outcome metrics using a series of multiple regression equations, seeking to better understand the impacts of those resource prioritization trends on the institutions’ missions. The study found that there are statistically significant relationships between revenue and expenditure levels and between expenditure levels and outcomes, however the model strongly suggests that there are better, more localized factors that would explain the institutional level trends.
