Abstract
  • This thesis presents a novel design for a rheometer style viscometer by implementing high temperature and inert atmospheric requirements on the device. The goals of this device are to measure the viscosity of high temperature molten salts, which are corrosive and extremely hydroscopic. It also aims to be able to measure the viscosity of liquids impregnated with fissile elements aiming to provide data for reactor designs which look to liquid fuels, rather than solid fuels. These hazardous samples require certain safety precautions, as well as precautions aimed at the maintenance of sample purity. The device is taken from initial design, through a mathematical proof of concept, and then to construction of the first prototype.
