Abstract
  • This thesis includes a satirical novel and a short analytical reflection on the writing process and the general themes and takeaways from the novel itself. While the analytical reflection appears before the novel in the paper, they can be read in either order. The novel satirizes how people respond to violence and suffering that they are not directly associated with by shoving that suffering directly into the face of the characters. The characters, by and large, act as though the suffering is still distant from them. The narrative follows the character of Noah Crane as he experiences various hardships, searches for purpose, and develops his understanding of the suffering of those around him
