Abstract
  • In March, 1990, about 24 crabbers, seafood processors and seafood vendors met in Newport for a workshop and a chance to give input to ODFW. One issue addressed was setting the start date for the commercial crab season to minimize the incidence of soft crabs that are not filled out after molting. Whether to manage season dates on a state or regional basis was another question. Maximizing profits, both to the individual fisher and to industry, was also covered. The report is accompanied by flowcharts illustrating the major issues.
